Another whirlwind Milwaukee trip…

Milwaukee. A rainy, warm weekend. Erika and Chad. Wedding preparations in the historic Third Ward, a beautifully personalized ceremony at Lake Park Lutheran, and a regal reception at 1451 Renaissance Place. Enjoy!

We wrapped up the evening with the men and their cigars. I think it’s a sign that I did a good job when the groom offers to share his with me. πŸ™‚ Thanks, Chad, and congratulations, friends!
We headed home Sunday morning, but only after a quick Starbucks stop, and a detour to honor our Olivia Act award winner, the Soba family… specifically, Alexis Soba.

20131017-200625.jpg
Alexis was a healthy, average 9-year old “girly girl,” or so her family thought. Last July, Alexis had three episodes with severe headaches and vomiting. The third time they went in to the doctor, the CT scan revealed that Alexis had a brain tumor, and her family’s worst nightmare began. Alexis was admitted to Children’s Hospital and had a full resection of the tumor… Leading to a diagnosis of Glioblastoma, brain cancer. She went through six weeks of radiation, chemo, countless platelet and blood transfusions… And she is now on the road to recovery.
We felt so blessed to be able to award her family a portrait session and document this beautiful stage in her recovery. We’re all rooting for you, Alexis!

West Virginia fishing, shooting (and fishing!) up in Pembine, and a HOT wedding in Arizona

When I don’t blog for a month, then try to do some kind of recap, I appear to be a world traveler.
On my trip out East, I stayed a few extra days, learned more about TU, and fished. A lot.

The baby fish are just the cutest.

20130625-091858.jpg
It was raining a lot in the mountains, so everything was very green, and there were waterfalls everywhere! The roads were really windy, cut into the rock, and I definitely got motion sick in front of one of TU’s VPs. Not embarrassing at all.

I took a break from fishing to hook up with Franklin and Bryan, both TU staff, to discuss plans for our Stream Girls program. It is designed as a collaboration between TU and Girl Scouts, and we made a lot of progress. πŸ™‚

20130625-092403.jpg
My flights home were uneventful, and I was happy to return to my pup and my own bed. Brian, on the other hand… When I came home from this trip, I walked in the door to a mustached man smoking a pipe. I need to stay close to home to keep that guy in line! πŸ™‚
I had a day in the office to try and catch up on some of the work that I missed, then I headed up to Pembine to do some photos for Tim, Nate, and the Tight Lines guys. Photos with pro fly fishing guides? I wrote it right in my contract that I needed a beer stipend and I had to get on some fish. πŸ™‚
Here’s some of my favorites from this nine hour float.

One memorable trip at a time!

Hi, friends!
I apologize for the delay in this post, but it turns out that if you play hooky from work for a week and a half, you come home to mounds of catch-up work!
A few weeks ago, I drive down to Milwaukee to check out the venues of my two MKE wedding couples: Erika and Chad, and Jen and Josh.

20130529-142600.jpg

20130529-142607.jpg
I also stopped by at the Southeastern Wisconsin Trout Unlimited meeting to visit my friends.

20130529-142750.jpg

20130529-142812.jpg
I stayed near the MKE airport, and left my car there for the park and fly. Eleven day trip with shooting, running, and fishing? My suitcase weighed 48 pounds. πŸ™‚
My first evening in DC, I worked with Graham Breedlove to do some promotional photos in Georgetown. Take a peek at a few of my favorites!

20130529-143122.jpg

20130529-143148.jpg

20130529-143157.jpg

20130529-143210.jpg

20130529-143220.jpg
We went to dinner at a place called Tackle Box, and finished up with some Georgetown Cupcake. Yum!

20130529-143332.jpg

20130529-143342.jpg
Thanks for the fun, Graham (and family!) I stayed at their beautiful home in Arlington, then picked up my rental car for day number two of fun- driving to Maryland to see Megan and Bobby!

20130529-143528.jpg
We walked all around Frederick taking in the sights…

20130529-143656.jpg

20130529-143709.jpg
…drinking coffee…

20130529-143738.jpg

20130529-143749.jpg
…eating good food…

20130529-143824.jpg
…and enjoying our friendship!

20130529-143852.jpg
Both my friends had to work on Friday, so I went to Baltimore to explore Inner Harbor.

20130529-144002.jpg

20130529-144010.jpg

20130529-144025.jpg
I was walking by the water, enjoying the sights and the ocean-y air, and guess who ran past me?

20130529-144116.jpg
Matt! What an awesome surprise. He was in Baltimore for a conference, and just happened to be out running while I was strolling. How cool!
It was more humid out there in Maryland. I was curly.

20130529-144242.jpg

20130529-144258.jpg
On Saturday, M & B took me to Capitol Hill to visit the famous The Sweet Lobby. If you know me in person, or have been reading for a while, you know that I LOVE fancy cupcakes. This place was amazing.

20130529-144424.jpg

20130529-144435.jpg

20130529-144456.jpg
We took the scenic route home…

20130529-144520.jpg

20130529-144531.jpg
…then headed to the expo to pick up our race gear. The first (and main!) reason that I took this trip was to run with Megan on her very first half marathon! I chose a fun option called the Nut Job. It is a series of two races, twelve hours apart. A quick, hilly 5K on Saturday night, and a long hilly half marathon on Sunday morning.
Saturday’s 5K was basically 1.5 miles downhill, then the turn around, and 1.5 miles back up that darn hill. It made me wish I had trained on some hills. Whoops. Those Maryland people take their hills seriously! Turns out, West Virginians do, too. More on that later.
Before the 5K:

20130529-150526.jpg
During the 5K:

20130529-150550.jpg
And after the 5K.

20130529-150614.jpg
It was much warmer weather than I had been used to, but sweating felt good. πŸ™‚
Also noteworthy: they provided us with men’s nuts post-race. Ha. My time was 29:18. In my mind, that was a great warmup run for the next day’s half.

20130529-150709.jpg
I took the world’s fastest shower, then we ran over to Bobby’s sister’s house for dinner with Bobby’s family. Of course, I was so distracted by the most delicious paleo dinner ever, that I didn’t take any photos of the family or the food. Wonderful burgers, sweet potato fries, sautΓ©ed summer squash, and all sorts of other delicious stuff. I did, however, snap a photo of this gem: salted caramel.

20130529-150929.jpg
We didn’t stay too late, and headed back for a full evening of resting and relaxing. Basically, I fell asleep as soon as we arrived back at M & B’s apartment. πŸ™‚
Sunday morning arrived with excitement! One of my favorite things about running with “new” runners is that I love sharing in the excitement of their first race, or new PDR, or first medal! My pre-race breakfast was pretty standard- Greek yogurt and berries.

20130529-151150.jpg
Bobby was an excellent chauffeur for the morning- he got a parking spot very close to the start/finish, so we could all stay together. There was a hot air balloon near the start- what a cool way to begin a race morning πŸ™‚

20130529-151310.jpg

20130529-151320.jpg

20130529-151335.jpg
The course was beautiful with some hills and gorgeous scenery! I even recognized some areas from my days exploring downtown!

20130529-151500.jpg

20130529-151516.jpg

20130529-151527.jpg
This guy was holding a sign- “Offical Race Liar.”

20130529-151601.jpg
He was probably around mile 7 or 8, on a long uphill. Here are some of the things that came out of his megaphone…
-“It’s all downhill from here!”
-“You’re almost done!”
-“Finally! Someone who looks great in spandex!”
Hilarious. That guy was great.

20130529-151929.jpg

20130529-152352.jpg
THAT’S a giant sign.
They had military men and women giving us our medals at the end. How cool!

20130529-152451.jpg
I came in relaxed with a time of 2:13:12, then looped back to cheer for Megan. While I was waiting for her to come through the last half mile, I saw an incredibly inspirational man in a wheelchair. He was struggling to make it up the gravel incline to the track. He didn’t want help from anyone, so all the runners around him started cheering and encouraging even louder than normal. When he finally made it up the incline, I cried happy tears for him.
Megan came through the chute not long after my wheelchair guy, and I shouted my little buns off. And cried some more. And I’m crying writing this. Gosh, runners are inspirational!! Love you, Megan.

20130529-152627.jpg

20130529-152638.jpg

20130529-152650.jpg

20130529-152706.jpg
We headed back to M & B’s place for brunch with their families. I took a shower and got changed for mass, then we all ate. Of course, I forgot to take photos of this family. Jeez. I was distracted by the dinosaur eggs they were feeding me! Don’t know what they are? Check it out.
We went to mass at a church that is 250 years old! Well, not the building, but the group of people that have been going. The church is beautiful!

20130529-153107.jpg
And we followed up mass with Rita’s. Being a Midwestern girl, I didn’t know what this chain is all about. Turns out, it’s about mixing delicious fresh Italian ice with creamy custard. Yum!

20130529-153214.jpg

20130529-153225.jpg
After that awesome day, I packed up my stuff and got ready to head to West Virginia.
One trip at a time, folks! Stay tuned for fishing in WV, working up in Pembine, and a wedding in Arizona. πŸ™‚

Clam Chowdah Challenge and hurricane Sandy.

Hi, blog friends! I have a list of beautiful things to blog about, including a ton of photos and the passing of our big lab girl, Misty, but that will have to wait until later… Or after vacation.
By vacation, I mean heading to the East coast to run the Clam Chowdah Challenge, a road race that consists of a half marathon on Saturday and a full marathon on Sunday, then spending the rest of the week in Boston with our college friends, Curtis and Mo.
Brian and I started our vacation by heading down to Chicago to catch our flight. The weather in Wisconsin was crazy…

20121029-173253.jpg
We stopped at a new kennel to drop off Abbie for the first four days of our trip. It’s the first time she’ll be at a kennel without Misty, so I’ve been calling to check in. It sounds like she made a lot of new friends and ran around a lot. πŸ™‚
Brian and I made it to O’Hare with just enough time to catch our flight to Boston.

20121029-173402.jpg

20121029-173412.jpg
Curtis and Mo picked us up at the airport after a short plane delay, and we headed straight to pick up dinner… Chowdah, of course!

20121029-173522.jpg

20121029-173558.jpg

20121029-173608.jpg
After a delicious clam chowder dinner, we fell sound asleep from a day of traveling. We woke up on Friday and hung out with Curtis before heading out for Cape Cod, where the race was held. The traffic through Boston was really crazy, and I was a little unnerved by all the digital highway signs…

20121029-174048.jpg
They were starting to warn people about the impending hurricane. After a 2.5 hour drive, we made it to our hotel (The Doubletree in Hyannis) and headed to “carb-load” for dinner.

20121029-174146.jpg

20121029-174159.jpg

20121029-174208.jpg
The pizza was perfect, and after a quick stop for groceries (pre-race breakfasts!), I slept soundly Friday night. On Saturday morning, we found a Starbucks for my morning fix. (D.O., represent!)

20121029-174538.jpg
It was a beautiful day for a run.

20121029-175909.jpg
I had Greek yogurt with honey, chia seeds, and a banana for breakfast, and I felt ready to run the first race, a quick little 13.1 miles through hilly Falmouth, MA.

20121029-180138.jpg
About mile 4, I met two adorable runners from New Jersey. They reminded me of my own sole sisters, Kim and Nancy.

20121029-180244.jpg
Val and Colleen and I chatted throughout the whole race πŸ™‚ Brian kept himself busy with the beautiful scenery, including a couple swans!!!

20121029-180508.jpg

20121029-180700.jpg

20121029-180710.jpg
We brought it in with a reasonable 2:15 something.

20121029-180608.jpg

20121029-180621.jpg
We headed back to our hotel so I could shower, then the Weisses and the Oberstadts all headed to lunch- lobster rolls!

20121029-180839.jpg
Please take note of the menu pairing- a kids hot dog goes best with beer or soda. πŸ™‚

20121029-180919.jpg

20121029-180947.jpg

20121029-181002.jpg
We walked around downtown a little bit so I could get the blood flowing through my legs, and we found this awesome giant chair.

20121029-181050.jpg

20121029-181056.jpg
We went to dinner at our hotel restaurant, and I had a wedge salad with some delicious dinner rolls, and some of Brian’s seafood pasta. It had incredible scallops! Yummmm. I was feeling a little tight, so I used my foam roller and stretched, praying that I’d awake on Sunday feeling rested and refreshed.
Unfortunately, I woke up Sunday morning feeling nauseous, with a sore throat and even more sore hamstrings. I could hardly eat my breakfast, though I was trying.

20121029-181449.jpg

20121029-181456.jpg
Luckily, I found Val and Colleen, and they eased my nervous mind.

20121029-181525.jpg
I kept thinking, one race down, one to go. In fact, I was practically a third of the way done already- 13.1 finished, 26.2 to go.

20121029-181619.jpg
No starting gun for this race- they have a start cannon.

20121029-181702.jpg
You can see me in the starting crowd with my teal top and pink skirt.

20121029-181742.jpg
This guy had an awesome shirt…

20121029-181801.jpg
Brian came and met me several times on the course- miles 7.5, 13, 16.3, 19, and 23.3. He helped me fuel through the race with Skittles, Lifesavers, and flat Coke. There was cytomax on the course, as well.

20121029-182124.jpg

20121029-182133.jpg

20121029-182142.jpg
It was a beautiful course, although it was pretty hilly.

Special thanks to the guy around mile 20 who offered me this incredible popsicle.

I finished the marathon in 5:30 something. As the race approached mile 18, both my hamstrings and my quads tightened up so much that I couldn’t run anymore. I walked through a water station, and when I tried to run again, I couldn’t. I ended up powerwalking/jogging the remainder of the race. As I kept chugging along, I was trying to figure out why I was having such a rough marathon… And then I remembered- I ran a half marathon the day before. Oh, yeah… that. One sweet grandma-like lady came up to me in the finishers chute, told me I had such a sweet smile, even when I was hurting, and she was so proud of me. Then she gave me a big hug, even though I was sweaty and very salty.
After the race, we headed back to the race headquarters to pick up the big prize- the coveted clam Chowdah mug.

I also took advantage of the post-race massage, and a shower. No shower feels as good as a post-marathon shower.

20121029-182955.jpg
We headed to a sports bar for a late lunch and the end of the Packer game (GO, PACK, GO!), then drove back to Curtis and Mo’s apartment. They made delicious chicken tacos for dinner, and we enjoyed a low-key evening in. My hurting body enjoyed all the laying around, and a warm bath, and more stretching. I slept for a long and wonderful 10 hours, and Curtis made my morning by cooking eggs and creating the leaning tower of eggshells.

We spent the morning accumulating emergency storm supplies…

Viennese Ball weekend

Hello, friends! I had a super fun weekend dancing at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s Viennese Ball.

20120415-193750.jpg
I’ll start from the beginning. I left on Friday to head over to EC with Dale.

20120415-193841.jpg
I wore a necklace that Brian and I put together before I left so I wouldn’t miss him too much. It’s a locket from my mom’s charm bracelet, with our pictures in it <;3

20120415-194022.jpg
I did my makeup in the car. I have to make an embarrassing confession: I watch the stupid show Toddlers and Tiaras. It’s a reality show that follows pageant moms and their little kids. My favorite most disturbing part of the show is at the end, when they show before-and-after photos of the kids. The ‘before’ shots are usually of the kids with frizzy hair and food on their face- and the ‘after’ is of them in a pageant dress with their hair and makeup done. Anyway, my in-the-car photos feel like they could be on Toddlers and Tiaras. πŸ™‚

20120415-194619.jpg
We met up with Dale’s friend, Jackie, and we went to dinner and the dance.

20120415-194706.jpg
I wore a red dress and did an updo on Friday night.

20120415-194739.jpg
We danced until late, ate midnight breakfast, and danced some more. I slept soundly, then got up on Saturday for a short run.

20120415-194958.jpg
With each day that goes by, my bronchitis feels a little better. After a quick shower and getting ready, Dale and I went to the old downtown area in EC. He showed me his previous dance studio and we went to a really neat cafe for lunch- Acoustic Cafe. I had a delicious pita sandwich and coffee, of course!

20120415-195124.jpg
Dale and I did some minor shopping in the afternoon- TJ Maxx (a new running shirt), Target (a poker set for B and a Kermit the Frog shirt for moi), and Best Buy (light scribe DVDs). Nothing too crazy πŸ™‚ I did find a pretty awesome game, though…

20120415-195325.jpg
I thought about buying it, then realized that Brian and I probably know all the answers, so if we tried to play against each other, it would be a boring game. πŸ™‚ Does anyone own this game? Is it awesome?
After shopping, I started getting ready for Saturday’s dance. I wore my hair down and curly, and a blue halter-style dress.

20120415-195610.jpg
We went to dinner at a place called Porter’s. Dale ordered the salmon, though they were out. He was crabby about that! 😦 Our poor server probably had the bad luck of delivering the bad news to their customers… but seriously- what nice restaurant runs out of salmon? I was luckier- I ordered a delicious teriyaki steak salad and a glass of merlot, and both the salad and the wine were aplenty!

20120415-195907.jpg
After dinner, we headed over to day two of V-ball. We met up with our dance friends Thomas and Pat. I was happy to see other people that I know! This event is a very cool fundraiser for scholarships. In the main ballroom, they alternate between their orchestra playing mostly Viennese waltzes, and their jazz ensemble playing big band tunes. They also had a second room with a German band playing mostly polkas, with a few foxtrots thrown in the mix. I do love accordion! They had a room filled with German pastries, a little jazz club downstairs featuring student combos…

20120415-200854.jpg
…a room with a cappella singers (like a pop chamber group), a faculty voice quartet, and solo piano works played by their piano studio. When we walked in the main entrance, we were greeted by a harp ensemble!

20120415-200806.jpg
I love dances because I get to wear sparkly dresses and fun jewelry. πŸ˜€

20120415-200949.jpg
All in all, I had a wonderful time. Thanks, Dale, for suggesting this event!

20120415-201036.jpg
We came back this morning. Kermit + coffee + tired Heidi =

20120415-201151.jpg
There were lots of Amish folks out today. I always worry about them on the highway. Those buggies move slowly, and some drivers are idiots who drive too fast and don’t move over. :-/
As soon as I got home, I took a nap. Thanks to my sweet Brian for capturing my most beautiful side. πŸ™‚

20120415-201404.jpg
Post nap, we gave our puppies a bath. They both did so well!

20120415-201432.jpg
Tacos for Brian, taco salad for me. I love jalapeΓ±os!

20120415-201503.jpg
Now I’m finishing off the night by snuggling on the couch (thanks again, Mom!) with my handsome electrician.

20120415-201538.jpg
Haha. But really. What a stud!

Keith Jarrett

Keith Jarrett was incredible.

20120406-111348.jpg
That’s me, and the piano. I was so excited!
I first fell in love with Keith Jarrett back in 2003. I’d stumbled upon his recording from his 1975 KΓΆln Concert, and I was mesmerized by his phrasing and melodic and harmonic ideas. Something about the way he plays is so honest and genuine. When I saw that he was playing in Chicago, I knew I had to go. I didn’t know that he’s had some health problems, so I’m very thankful for the opportunity to hear him while he can still play. He had to ice his hand during intermission, and he took an unplanned break during the second half to ice, as well. This is my view from the top:

20120406-111437.jpg
I apologize for the blown-out picture- but I didn’t bring a camera other than my phone. I was carrying a small clutch! πŸ™‚
Keith doesn’t have a reputation for being the most friendly on stage, but he was really conversational during the night. He humored us by taking requests, even playing part of “Moonlight Sonata” and laughing about requests for his “Colon” concert. He ran over to the mic and said, “Did I hear that right? Did I play a colon concert?!” The music was fantastic; we clapped so long that we brought him out for two encore performances.
If I could have told my sweet 17-year-old self that I would one day be in Chicago and make my way to Keith Jarrett’s concert by my independent self, I wouldn’t have believed it.

20120406-111612.jpg
Do I look musically fulfilled? I felt like I was floating on air after that concert. Downtown Chicago is pretty awesome at night πŸ™‚

20120406-111700.jpg
Special thanks to Rex for dropping me off and picking me up after the concert. πŸ™‚
As soon as we got back to Maureen’s house, I crashed. I was a tired cookie! I had to wake up early on Thursday to make it to Almond in time to judge the middle school’s district Solo/Ensemble contest. Good morning, sunshine!

20120406-112003.jpg
I love traveling, but there’s always something special about seeing the “Wisconsin Welcomes You” sign.

20120406-112107.jpg
I drove up through MKE and then took country roads to Almond.

20120406-112214.jpg
A far cry from the streets in Chicago, that’s for sure!
When I was about 45 minutes outside of Almond, I started to hear a pretty loud clunking sound coming from my rear driver’s side wheel well. At first, I thought it was the case of wine I bought at Trader Joe’s rattling around in the trunk, but that wasn’t it. I started to get nervous and prayed that I’d make it home. First- a stop to hear the kids play some music.
Amanda and I worked together to do the judging. It was a great time! I love helping and encouraging young students in their musical journey.

20120406-112327.jpg
On the way home, the clunking got worse and worse. I started wondering if I should be driving highway speeds (as it turns out, the answer was no. I’m pretty lucky!). I made it home and was so happy to see Brian and the pups. I whipped up a quick chicken stir fry with brown rice for dinner, then Brian dropped me off at my TU board meeting on the way to his union meeting. I was mentioning to the board that my car broke, and that I’d need a ride home, when our future president offered to give me a ride. As it turns out, he’s the manager at Auto Select in town, and he offered to take a look at my car. I have the best friends, I swear! πŸ™‚ He diagnosed the problem, and called me this morning with a quote for repairs. When he called, my cold was in full swing, so I sounded more like Heidi-turned-Cookie-Monster. Oh, well. He reassured me that they had green tea at the shop, and wi-fi.
Best. Auto. Shop. Ever.
As it turns out, strut assemblies are important and EXPENSIVE. sigh.
For you car people out there- here’s the damage.

20120406-113456.jpg
I learned that it’s not supposed to look like that. Well, goodbye, $500.
Despite my cold and the unexpected expense, I’m going to make this Good Friday a good one. πŸ™‚
P.S. happy opening day, Brew Crew!

St. Patrick’s Day in Chicago and my last day in the world of coffee

Brian and I had an awesome weekend together πŸ™‚
We headed down to Chicago on Friday afternoon. Two weekends in a row with a long drive…

20120319-191332.jpg
We made a quick pit stop in Johnson Creek at the Coach store to get a fix for my broken zipper pull on my fave handbag. Once we finally made it to Chicago (after crazy traffic in both in Milwaukee and coming into IL), we dropped off our luggage at my aunt Maureen’s house and headed over to Tank. Sushi= one more reason to love Fridays in Lent!

20120319-191930.jpg

20120319-191953.jpg
Once we were nice and full, we walked over to the closest L stop. We went on a little excursion downtown. I love taking the train- the more I take it, the better I get at navigating the city. We stopped at Ghirardelli and picked up enough chocolate to last us a year. On the way back to the L, I saw a frozen yogurt shop. You know the kind- the flavors are in soft serve machines and come with tons of toppings πŸ™‚ I picked plain and berry yogurt with lots of fruit on top!

20120319-192259.jpg
When we got back to Maureen’s house, we got to catch up with the whole family. πŸ™‚ Late to bed, early to rise? I got up extra early on Saturday to go for a quick run. I love running in Chicago. πŸ™‚
After a quick shower and getting dressed, I headed to Maureen’s salon to watch her get her hair done. Her stylist, Erik, at Salon Buzz is such a riot. A very funny guy and incredibly nice. I sipped on some of their cucumber lime water while waiting, and enjoyed people watching! πŸ˜€
Next stop? Picking up the rest of the family and heading over to the Hibernian float in the St. Patrick’s day parade. We had a great time…

20120319-193615.jpg

20120319-193625.jpg
Look at our view from the parade route! How cool. It was SO unusually hot out there- the daffodils were all blooming, and it was a beach party on the lake… complete with bikinis and beach volleyball. How bizarre! (thank you, OMC.)
After the parade, we walked back to the car and headed over to the Hibernian party. It was nice to see my family, including my dad, Tom, Tommy, Mickey, Eileen, Killeen, Steph, and of course, my uncles and cousin who “star” in the McGowans.

20120319-194259.jpg
They were so great! The played a bunch of traditional Irish tunes, some great danceable classics, and even a cover of Mumford and Sons’ “Little Lion Man.” Love it!

20120319-194357.jpg
Isn’t my cousin Tommy adorable? We made a date to go to Six Flags this summer.
We left the Hibernian party and hopped on a trolley with our family and friends.

20120319-194545.jpg
Ashley, Max, Brian, Rex and I all squeezed in the back row of the trolley. πŸ™‚ We went to a bunch of places, including Burke’s, an awesome bar owned by my cousins Brendan and Kevin. If you are over in Edgewater, check them out! Of course, we enjoyed a few Irish car bombs…

20120319-194956.jpg
After our trolley ride was over, the 20-somethings headed over to Wrigleyville. It was like one giant street party- the roads were closed and people were everywhere! It was over an hour wait to get into any place, so my cousins took me to get my favorite Chicago food…

20120319-195225.jpg
A Chicago dog has never tasted so good. I finished it just in time to watch the guy at the table next to us blow chunks all over. Awesome. :-/ I got to hail a cab, which was quite exciting. All that practicing in Central Wisconsin paid off, haha. Brian helped me out with his ridiculously loud whistle. That whistle is handy if I ever get lost in a crowd, that’s for sure. πŸ™‚
We slept nice and late on Sunday, but were on the road at 11. After a quick stop at Whole Foods (oh my gosh, I forgot my bag. Get a manager!), we were on the road. The traffic was fine until we got to Milwaukee. There were two crazy accidents… One was an 8 car pileup with a semi, and the second one involved a driver getting shot while driving and crashing on the highway. All three lanes were closed. We were stuck there for a while while ten emergency vehicles flew past me on the shoulder. Eventually, the police ended up having us all back up and turn around. Have you ever driven the wrong way on the highway? We have!

20120319-200029.jpg
I made it home just in time to rush to teach dance lessons. I love the huge group we have for West Coast swing. Our beginner foxtrot students are doing well, too!
This morning was my last shift at Starbucks. So many of my regulars were there to say goodbye. Ken, a dog-loving West-coast regular gave me a sweet card! I didn’t even cry when I left. So proud of myself! Of course, I headed right to the nail salon after my shift to have my nails done. I missed that- when working at Starbucks, the employees aren’t allowed to have their nails painted. Then again, we also aren’t allowed to have artificial hair colors or visible tattoos. Bring on the hot pink streaks and arm sleeves! I’m thinking tribal, haha.
I came home, worked on my updated business plan for a while, and took a glorious nap. Brian woke me up with a kiss, a bouquet of flowers, and a delicious, healthy dinner. He’s so amazing… I’m in love.
I’m looking forward to a great run in beautiful weather tomorrow, a photo shoot over at Adventure 212, and checking out Sam’s Club with Brian. We’re looking into getting a membership. Any thoughts?
