Swing Fling

First of all, thanks to all who chimed in with thoughts about weight-based divisions. I learned a lot, and gain inspiration from all of you!
I’ve been battling Cold: Round Two. The featured attractions on this go-around are a dry cough, headache, and body aches. No running for me for the past three days 😦
I was a busy girl on Saturday, though! I discovered a dress sale that was sponsored by SPASH’s dance team. I found a beautiful blue dress to wear at the balls that I’ll be attending this month. 🙂
Saturday night was UWSP’s Swing Fling- an event sponsored by Delta Omicron that raises money for jazz scholarships. I had a great night dancing with both my hubby and Dale, and our friends Christy, Devon, Jackie, and Adam came out, too!
Brian and I brought cameras to capture the evening, of course.

That’s Professor Mathew Buchman, director of the Jazz Ensemble. He sat in on piano for a tune, and also danced with me! (well, we pretended to, anyway…)

On Sunday night, Dale and I had our last lesson for the season with CWN. It was a great time, and I’m so proud of how far our students have come. I am continually thankful for the opportunity to learn to be an instructor. 🙂 I forgot to take photos of our students this week, but I definitely remembered to take photos of the cakes that we got for them. 🙂 Great Job, CWN dancers! Thank you for smiling, laughing, and dancing with us!

And, as promised, here’s a little clip of Dale and I doing what we do best 😀
I’ll be honest and say that I got a little teary-eyed when I watched this. This was the first time that I’ve seen myself ballroom dance on video, and I was amazed at how far I’ve come. I’ve had some good teachers! 🙂

Shall we dance?

It’s pretty common knowledge that I love running and I love photography. That’s because I talk about those things incessantly. 😀

What you might not know is that dancing is another love of mine. A passion. While I started tap and ballet when I was 4, I started ballroom, Latin, and swing dance lessons about 5 years ago. I’m lucky enough to dance twice a week these days. My dance partner, Dale, and I, practice once a week, and I help him teach lessons on Sunday nights to the Central Wisconsin Network folks. I absolutely love teaching those lessons.

We just finished up a five-week session of intermediate tango and beginner swing. I bought my mom swing lessons for Christmas, so she comes, too! I’m so proud of her progress. I love you, Mom!

I love going to dances, whether they’re casual practice dances or swing dances with live music. Formal dances are the best. I’ve loved dressing up since I was a curly-mullet-sporting bouncy little girl. When I’m dancing, I feel like the most beautiful woman in the world. It helps that my sweet students say the most adorable and kind things.
“You are so graceful, I love watching you dance. You remind me of ‘Dancing With The Stars!'”
“Oh, look at your dress. You are a REAL dancer!”
They inspire me to keep practicing and get better so I can REALLY have something to show them someday. Special thanks to Chris Pruitt, whom I ran into at a weeknight dance in Waupaca, and who snapped this photo of Dale and I. 🙂

Fish, beer, and friends.

I had a wonderful evening of surprises last night. 🙂
I had my monthly Trout Unlimited board meeting for our Frank Hornberg chapter last night. It was the official unveiling of all my handiwork… www.hornberg-tu.org
The board seemed really happy with it, and I’m waiting to hear back about my first round of revisions 🙂
I usually have rehearsal with Dale, my dance partner, on Thursday nights, but he had a headache, so I thought I’d go over to Smileys to dance with my CWN friends (and dance students!). Turns out, there was some kind of banquet over there, and no dancing, so I decided to stop over at my favorite Plover brewery, O’so brewery. I walked in the door to find two friends of mine- Mary and Tom. It was the perfect little surprise! Brian was at his union meeting then heading right to work for the night shift, so I would have been sitting alone… And drinking good beer with good friends served by good people was the perfect antidote for the last of my under-the-weather tendencies.
