Henry and Christina, and my last taper week

Hi, friends! I spent my last taper work keeping busy with all sorts of things, including a trip to Green Bay to work with Henry and Christina and capture their engagement portraits. We took advantage of a beautiful fall day along Baird Creek.

I love Henry’s bow tie. Too cute! Congratulations, friends. We’re looking forward to working with you again next year!
I stopped at my “local” fly shop, Tight Lines, and had my new fly line put on my birthday present to myself, my new seven weight reel.

IMG_4224.JPG

IMG_4220.JPG
I can’t wait to put that baby to good use!
I also went to dinner with my friend, Aaron. 🙂 it’s hard to get him to come out- combining grad school with someone who works in politics a month before an election, and I was lucky to snag an invite!

IMG_4225.JPG
I started working on a secret photo project with some beautiful products…

IMG_1687.JPG

IMG_1688.JPG
Did some very cliche photo work “out of the office” at Starbucks…

IMG_4227.JPG
Ate some of my pink applesauce…

IMG_4230.JPG
And went on my last run before the race with my Abbie pup.

IMG_4236.JPG

IMG_4244.JPG
It was all good preparation for my ridiculous weekend ahead… Stevens Point to Milwaukee to Chicago to Stevens Point to Wausau to Chicago to home.
That story is up next! 🙂

Snow? In October?

Yes, it snowed. Sam and Spencer probably didn’t expect snow on their October 4th wedding, but they awoke on their wedding morning to a fresh dusting. Luckily for us, they braved the cold to play outside with us for a few photos. The ceremony was moved indoors, right near the fireplace at the country club, and they were surrounded by family and friends. Many happy tears were shed! Take a peek for yourself.

These two are huge Star Wars fans. Their pastor even said, “May God’s force be with you,” in the ceremony!

IMG_1667.JPG
In typical Heidi style, we celebrated shooting two weddings in two days by planning a full Sunday.
We slept in a little bit, then headed over to Nekoosa for their annual Pumpkin Festival. The highlight of this festival is when they hoist a giant pumpkin up on a crane, then drop it. This year’s pumpkin was 1400 pounds! We missed the pumpkin drop (it happened later in the day), so the highlight for us was the Nekoosa Ambulance Run The Pumpkin 5K. All the proceeds from the race support their ambulance and medical crews. It’s a cause I can get behind! 🙂
Did you know that Nekoosa is the Giant Pumpkin Capital of Wisconsin?

IMG_4202.JPG
This little race is awesome. With Chicago Marathon a week away, I was looking for a surefire confidence boost. I rarely run these small town races, but I had a a lot of fun! It was an out-and-back course, with Daisy Girl Scouts handing out water at the turnaround. It was almost too cute. I loved it! It was my fastest 5K yet, 26:55… And with such a small field, I earned third in my age group. My first age group award ever! Maybe I should run more small races… 🙂

I was on cloud nine, and we hopped back in the car to go up to Wausau to celebrate our adorable friend, Halle, turning three!

I love this little peanut. Some of our college friends made the trip to celebrate, as well!

Halle loves minions, so she and Mom (Jenny!) made these cute cupcakes.

IMG_4203.JPG
Happy birthday, cutie! We all love you.

IMG_4219.JPG
When we headed out, I noticed I’d put my shoes next to Halle’s. It’s a good thing she’s three, otherwise I’d feel like a giant! 🙂

Next up? A trip to Green Bay for some fly shop time, engagement portraits, and dinner. 🙂 Thanks for reading, friends!

Tiffany and Darrin, and beginning to taper

Tiffany and Darrin wanted to celebrate their one-year anniversary with a photo shoot. What a fun idea!
Judging by these photos, they still have that sweet newlywed connection. I love it!

We did this shoot up on Rib Mountain, and when the shoot was finished, Brian and I parked at the bottom of the mountain, ran the 2 miles up to the ranger station, then flew back down. So fun, and such a challenge for my form. Since I was tapering for Chicago, I tried to make the miles extra fun!
I filled in at Point Forward Physical Therapy (I might make this a regular thing!) for the day on Monday, and took this selfie with my favorite coworker. 🙂

IMG_4164.JPG
Brian’s 27th birthday was on the 23rd, and I gave him his very own fly rod and reel. It’s a Redington 5wt, and we only had a few days to try it out before trout season closed. We headed out to one of my favorite spots on my home water, the Tomorrow River. I missed a strike, but spent most of my time helping Brian out. I’m so proud of him and how fast he’s learning!

IMG_4167.JPG
I rounded out my week with a few runs with the girls…

Happy birthday to me!

I celebrated my 29th birthday with a 20 miler. It was tough but I made it through 🙂

IMG_4046.JPG

IMG_4047.JPG

IMG_4050.JPG

IMG_4048.JPG
Long runs build character, as well as strengthen my body. I took four five mile loops, and fueled at home in between. The fall colors were starting to show, and I took some beautiful loops on the Green Circle. I was even stuck behind a train at mile 18!

IMG_4051.JPG
I finished along the Wisconsin River by my house, and relaxed in compression socks for a while 🙂

IMG_4052.JPG

IMG_4053.JPG
My mom and Bill invited us up for pizza at Sam’s, the place where I had my first waitressing job. 🙂
I celebrated my birthday and long run with some thin crust deliciousness and a frosty mug of beer. Pretty awesome. Afterwards, we went to the campground where they’ll be having their wedding reception.

IMG_4055.JPG

IMG_4060.JPG
We returned home, and I tried to take a selfie with my curly-haired Grammie, but she was being camera shy. Too cute.

IMG_4061.JPG
I had Friday to recover from my fun birthday, and we headed over to Waupaca on Saturday to capture the wedding of Mary and Scott. These two are so cute together, and they had lots of personalized details- especially featuring their shared love for Scott’s Cadillac. They had their reception at the historic Gerold Opera House, and it was a beautiful and unique setting! All the lush red velvet and well-danced wooden floors…
Take a peek!

We have a new driveway!!

After six years in our home, and getting stuck in our muddy driveway every spring, we finally decided to fix our driveway. We opted for gravel, and filled in the space underneath our shed, widened the whole driveway, and put in a brick border. We did so much manual labor! Digging out the space for the gravel was only the beginning.
Before:

IMG_3955.JPG

IMG_3966.JPG

IMG_3964.JPG
And, finally, after!

IMG_3968.JPG
Brian was such a trooper. We spent hours out there working to shovel that gravel where it needed to go. Since we have guy wires over every border of our property, the big dump truck wouldn’t fit, so the gravel had to come in two loads. So. Much. Shoveling.
Now, we wait. I can’t wait to see what happens this spring!
I ran with Carmel…

IMG_3969.JPG
…had coffee with my running girls…

IMG_3980.JPG
…Carmel and I ran through some burr bushes…

…put in some time at the track…

…made a ridiculously delicious breakfast in my new doughnut pan…

Labor Day weekend pt 2…

As soon as we wrapped up Casi and Eric’s wedding, I headed to bed so I could get up early for the Just Run 1/2 marathon and the Riverfront Jazz Festival.
I ran over to the start line, and found Jenilee and George!

IMG_3918.JPG
This is a great hometown race, with a half marathon and a 5K. It was a very hot and humid day- it was between 97-98% humidity. The race started nice and easily, on the bridge right above the dam. I found Ray, manning the 3 mile water station with the Boy Scouts.

IMG_3919.JPG
It is a beautiful course, and this year, they switched it up with a little stretch through the Sculpture Park on the Green Circle.

IMG_3920.JPG

IMG_3921.JPG

IMG_3922.JPG
One of my favorite things about running is meeting new people. The running community is so welcoming and friendly!

IMG_3923.JPG
I crossed the finish line one sweaty woman, received my medal, and ran home, with 15 miles for the day.

IMG_3926.JPG

IMG_3924.JPG
I took a shower, packed a lunch, and we headed over to the Riverfront Jazz Festival. I spent a lot of time at the Jazz Festival, both on Saturday and Sunday. Once again, I was shooting for those guys, but I also got to hang out with my college friends and people that I love from the community!

IMG_1519-0.JPG
My Wausau kayaking crew! 🙂 in a fun twist, I have danced with or learned to dance from many of these people. Missy and Jeff were my first ballroom dance instructors! Seeing them was a great surprise.

Noah’s Ark: Happy Birthday, Andy!

Happy 30th birthday, Andy!

IMG_0968.JPG

IMG_0967.JPG
Amanda, Andy, Brian and I spent the day celebrating at Noah’s Ark. It was amazing. Of course, I didn’t bring a camera, nor my phone, so I have no documentation, but I screamed so loud while riding Scorpion’s Tail that my throat hurts. 🙂
Brian and I went to Moosejaw for dinner…

IMG_3882.JPG

IMG_3881.JPG
…then walked around downtown. I got some cinnamon bears (my favorite!), and we got Abbie some delicious kind of puppy treat. I hurried home to give it to her.

IMG_4192.JPG
So cute. I’d lick my lips, too, if someone gave me a treat the length of my torso. 🙂
Random, but awesome… In my ten years of living in Stevens Point and loving Green Tea, I never noticed the languages on the receipt.

IMG_3886.JPG
I ran some errands on my bike, bought some flowers at the farmer’s market, then ran some more.

IMG_3893.JPG
Carmel is back! 🙂 Wyoming was amazing, but we’re all happy she’s back.
I celebrated Katrina’s birthday with more Great Northern Distilling and some friends in the conservation politics world, like Jen. It was awesome to see her! I always learn a lot when I talk with my friends who work for League of Conservation Voters.
Cute photo of the post, brought to you by Annie’s mac and cheese. Photobomb courtesy of Abbie.

Summer randoms…

Technology is amazing. I had a call with one of my co-workers, Jeff, where I shared my computer screen with him and he shared his with me, so we could show each other what we’ve been working on and I could explain my latest project. So cool. Having coworkers thousands of miles away is made possible by these awesome technological advances.
I was so happy to be back at home and in my office. With the air conditioning off, it was about 80 humid degrees up there, and the orchid on my desk was loving it.

IMG_3839.JPG
Abbie and I took advantage of the humid late-summer weather with lots of running along the river.

IMG_3864.JPG
The city is trying some new techniques to keep the geese off the grass in the park…

IMG_3865.JPG
They fooled Abbie at first- a big 2D dog is scary when you’re a little Jack Russell! She got over it quickly, though, and we continued. I love that little runner dog.

IMG_3872.JPG
Sometimes, I just cannot believe how that little 21 pound furball stole my heart so quickly.

IMG_3868.JPG
As you may know, we love live music, and we have a lot of it here, being a college town. We made a weeknight trip out to Great Northern Distilling to hear some jazz. 🙂

A little paint job, running, and a trip to Central Waters

After living with a peach wall in our bedroom for five years, I decided that I wanted to make a switch to grey. This is not related to my current obsession with watching old Grey’s Anatomy’s episodes and the city of Seattle, in general. 🙂
I just made the decision to do it one evening, and picked out the paint, bought a duvet cover to match, and did it. Brian came home from working on my paddleboard to quite the surprise!

IMG_3778.JPG

IMG_3779.JPG
I love it. 🙂
I was lucky enough to be invited over to Central Waters Brewery for a photo shoot.
Horseshoes and Hand Grenades will be playing a concert over there on October 11, so I had the chance to hang out with one of the owners, Paul, and Adam, from the band.

It’s also Oktoberfest season, so we had fun playing around with some of that gorgeous (and delicious!) beer.
I went to the dentist for my checkup. I’ve been seeing Becky and the awesome technicians over at my dentist for the 26 years since my teeth came in!

IMG_3782.JPG
They did tell me that I’d need a crown. More info on that to come!
I came home, had a couple calls for work, and headed out for a bike ride to visit Brian. He’s been toiling away on my paddleboard!

IMG_3786.JPG
That Wednesday night was one of the fun runs here in Stevens Point. I love this group! Our once-a-month meet ups have been a lot of fun. This time, we headed over to the Little Plover River Park.

Baby Lily and Summer Shenanigans

Here she is.

IMG_1368.JPG
The first Oberstadt girl in over two decades. My brother-in-law, Avery, and his beautiful wife, Megan, welcomed baby Lily into the world two weeks ago. We are thrilled!

IMG_1366.JPG

IMG_1363.JPG

IMG_1367.JPG

IMG_1362.JPG

IMG_1370.JPG

IMG_1369.JPG

IMG_1365.JPG
She was adorable, even though she kept giving me a look that said, “I don’t know about this whole photo shoot thing, Aunt Heidi…”

IMG_1364.JPG
Visiting Lily was the best way to spend a summer Sunday.
It also happened to kick off an exciting week in our home, starting with a little visit from the infamous Peach.

IMG_3713.JPG
He sat in with the Mark Little Band, along with my college piano teacher, Prof. Buchman! What an awesome treat.

IMG_3712.JPG
I ran a bunch…

IMG_3715.JPG

IMG_3756.JPG
Whoa. That’s the same shirt. I swear I washed it… I am not one of those runners who can re-wear their running clothes. I smell… like roses.
Lydia even found this little lizard guy while we were out!

IMG_3757.JPG
I ran one of my least favorite errands- the pharmacy. I usually try to actually run there since it improves my spirits… It’s only a 5.75 mile loop.
The other thing that makes me feel better is this guy.

IMG_3754.JPG
John. Best pharmacy tech ever. When I go to pick up my thyroid hormones, it always makes me a little sad. It’s kind of hard to explain, but it just makes me feel a little defective. Luckily, John knows me by name and always has my pills ready for me! If I’m sweaty (a.k.a. literally running my errands), he packs the pill bottles with cotton for me so they don’t shake around in there. He just makes my day!
The other highlight of our week was Brian picking up his motorcycle. He bought a 1990 Suzuki Intruder. It’s blue, it’s beautiful.

IMG_3718.JPG
I’m also an overprotective wife. I want to follow him in my car and make sure he’s safe!
I snagged my first snapshot… the beer!

IMG_3721.JPG
It seemed appropriate 🙂
Brian is putting the finishing touches on my paddle board this week. It’s turning out beautifully. ❤

IMG_3593.JPG
That is all the adventures for now… we are heading off for a gorgeous coastal wedding. Where? Here’s a sneak peek.
